Happy Ratters: Intro to Barn Hunt

Happy Ratters is a structured 6-week group class designed to tap into your dog’s natural hunting instincts through scent work, problem-solving, and hunting games. This program provides a safe, controlled outlet for dogs to use their nose, build confidence, and engage in one of the most rewarding enrichment activities available.

Each week builds progressively on the previous lesson, helping dogs develop stronger hunting skills, improved focus, and greater confidence while having fun alongside their owners.

Training is hands-on and practical. You’ll learn how to encourage natural hunting behaviors, read your dog’s body language, and create successful searches that keep your dog mentally and physically engaged.

What to Expect

Throughout the program, you and your dog will work on:

  • Developing hunting and searching instincts
  • Building confidence and independence
  • Scent detection and odor recognition games
  • Problem-solving through structured hunt challenges
  • Focus and engagement in distracting environments
  • Increasing difficulty through progressive search setups
  • Fun enrichment activities that continue at home

Each session builds on previously learned skills, helping your dog become more efficient and confident when searching.

How Happy Ratters Works

  • Classes run in 6-week sessions with a set start date
  • You attend the same scheduled class each week
  • Skills build progressively from week to week
  • Class sizes are limited for quality instruction
  • Owners participate actively in every session
  • No previous scent work or ratting experience required

This structured format allows dogs to develop confidence and hunting skills through repetition, success, and progressively challenging searches.

Why Dogs Love Ratting

Many dogs were originally bred to locate, track, and hunt small prey. Happy Ratters allows dogs to express these natural instincts in a safe, controlled environment that provides:

  • Mental stimulation
  • Physical activity
  • Confidence building
  • Problem-solving opportunities
  • A healthy outlet for natural hunting behaviors

For many dogs, a 10-minute search can be just as satisfying as a long walk.

Multi-Dog Households

Multi-dog households may qualify for discounted rates when dogs are enrolled together.
