INTERMEDIATE OBEDIENCE

Dog training is a constantly changing industry. Group classes help students not only learn from their instructors, but also to learn from one another. If one dog is having an attention or barking issue, students can observe the proper training techniques should they need them in the future.

Every dog and every owner is different. Most of our human and canine personalities will play out in a group class. While some may see these as distractions, we see them as training opportunities. In the same way that parents learn from other parents. Dog owners can learn from other dog owners.

In conclusion, group dog training classes are rich in learning opportunities for dogs and humans. It also encourages owners to make a commitment to training when they have a group of people cheering them on. Who knows, you might even make a few friends along the way!

Class Description

Once your dog has completed our Puppy Kindergarten or Basic Obedience class, it is crucial to apply those skills in real-life scenarios. The intermediate class will build upon everything we learned in the puppy kindergarten or the basic obedience class, and set them up for success! In this class we will proof the commands that your dog knows by increasing distractions, duration, and distance. This class is open to dogs five months of age and older, and is a prerequisite for both Canine Good Citizen course and our Agility Course. We will focus on the following:

  • Getting the dog to focus on the objective through enticing distractions;
  • Expanding on impulse control (Jumping, leave it, stay, grabbing items/treats);
  • Leaving enticing items using ‘Leave It’ while on a walk’
  • Perfect our leash walking with Heel;
  • Polite Greetings;
  • Politely walking past people and dogs;
  • Introduction to Agility;
  • Introduction to Canine Good Citizen;
  • Continued socialization with other dogs and humans.
