GROUP TRAINING CLASSES

Dog training is a constantly changing industry. Group classes help students not only learn from their instructors, but also to learn from one another. If one dog is having an attention or barking issue, students can observe the proper training techniques should they need them in the future.

Every dog and every owner is different. Most of our human and canine personalities will play out in a group class. While some may see these as distractions, we see them as training opportunities. In the same way that parents learn from other parents. Dog owners can learn from other dog owners.

In conclusion, group dog training classes are rich in learning opportunities for dogs and humans. It also encourages owners to make a commitment to training when they have a group of people cheering them on. Who knows, you might even make a few friends along the way!

Puppy Kindergarten

Class Description

Class is for puppies starting age 9 – 20 weeks old and will teach you how to prevent many of the common behavioral problems seen in dogs, including Play Biting, Socialization with People and Dogs, Housetraining, Chewing, Home Alone, Acceptance of grooming, and Preventing Food Bowl and Object Guarding. Your puppy will also learn basic good manners, such as, attention, sit, down, come, place, and beginning leash manners.

At this age, puppies are still developing their canine social skills and learning how to interact appropriately with other dogs. Vital skills your pup will learn include:

  • Polite dog-to-dog greeting behavior;
  • Being gentle with their teeth during play;
  • Reading social cues to determine whether another puppy wants to play or be left alone.

It is important for these interactions to be with puppies their age as well as puppies or dogs from outside the family. The same result is not achieved with a doggy sibling. Without these skills, many pups grow up to be adults who have difficulty communicating with other dogs which unfortunately can put them at high risk for anxiety or aggression in social situations. This class will set your puppy up for socialization success!

 Advanced / Therapy Dog Prep

Class Description

If you have a friendly well-mannered dog, any breed or mix, and are an owner/handler who has a desire to share your dog with others in a volunteer capacity, you may be interested in becoming certified as a therapy dog team.

We will spend 4 weeks practicing everything you need to do for the therapy dog testing. All classes will be held at Precision K9 with the exception of the 3rd class which will meet at Farm and Fleet to get some store socialization.

All teams will be certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs by Pam Booras a Tester/observer for ATD. The certification will take place separate from the class. All teams will set up specific times with Pam when they are ready to test.

This class is being offered for people that would like to get more practice and a better understanding of what is expected of a therapy dog team. This class is NOT mandatory in order to test and certify with ATD. As long as your dog is 1 year of age you can contact any Tester/Observer for ATD to get your certification in motion if you believe you and your dog are ready to be tested. Taking this class does NOT guarantee your certification. Class size is limited.
