GROUP CLASSES

Group Training Classes are designed to be a fun and safe environment for you and your dog to learn how to work together as a team around a variety of distractions. We have a comprehensive program spanning from Puppy classes to more advanced Obedience classes. There is something for everyone! With smaller class sizes we are able to make sure that every team gets personalized attention. In group training, you get the same great information as one-on-one lessons, but at the discounted group rate! Dogs must be up to date on age appropriate vaccinations.

Note: In order for your dog to participate in group training classes at Precision K9 Training, your dog must be:

 1. Friendly towards people (both adults and kids) both on and off leash

2. Friendly towards other dogs (of all sizes) both on and off leash

3. Comfortable in new environments

If your dog is nervous, reactive, fearful or aggressive, we recommend one-on-one training for optimal training results.

Lessons are designed to be approached from multiple skill levels so everyone in class can participate equally and productively, regardless of your skill level. Lessons are built around real-life problem solving that teaches the skills you’ll need outside the classroom. All classes are 45 in length. Days and times are noted below for each class.

We now offer open enrollment for our Puppy Kindergarten, and Basic Obedience morning classes.

Puppy Kindergarten: Tuesday 8:30 a.m.

Basic Obedience: Tuesday 9:30 a.m.

We offer a flexible open enrollment format in some of our classes to help fit training into your life, instead of the other way around. Students purchase a 6 week training package, which allows you to come to your weekly class for 6 weeks whenever you start.

What is open enrollment? Each week, we will cover one or two skills from essentially start to finish, in self-contained modules. Your dog will still need practice at home and other places to become pros, of course, but we will put the tools in your hand to make sure you can prepare them for whatever real-life situation they are thrown into.

Is open enrollment better than traditional classes? Traditionally, dog training classes are offered on something like a 4, 6, or 8 week schedule, and each week you build on the behaviors that you learned the previous weeks. Unfortunately, what that means for some people is having to wait weeks or months before they can join a class. For puppies, especially, this means missing out on some valuable training time.

How does open enrollment registration work? Students, upon registering for a class, will begin at the next available date.

Can I make up a missed class? Because the class is continuously rolling, there is usually an opportunity to make it up, assuming there is room in the class. Make-ups limited to two in a six week package, must be made up within two months and will be dependent on the eligible makeup class not being filled.

A part of class each week is also spent going over common puppy issues and addressing any questions you may have.

Note: We require that all puppies attending class receive at least their second set of vaccinations seven days prior to class, and a negative fecal. Proof of vaccinations is required.

What to bring: a hungry puppy; lots of high value treats (e.g., hot dog or cheese pieces); treat pouch or container with lid for treats; a well fitted collar, or puppy harness and a lightweight 4′ to 6′ leash, or slip lead (no flexi-leashes). Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Prep

The American Kennel Club’s CGC Program is a wonderful way to showcase your dog’s good manners so he can be distinguished as a “Canine Good Citizen.” Prepare for the 10-step CGC test that covers basic skills such as loose-leash walking, sitting politely for petting, coming when called, and more.

A great follow-up class to Intermediate Obedience. This six session class helps dog and handler prepare for the CGC test, which is routinely given at Precision K9 Training. The CGC distinction is also a great departure point for other canine activities, such as obedience, agility, therapy work, and more! The Canine Good Citizen Program is open to all dogs, both purebred and mixed-breed. For more information on the Canine Good Citizen Program, please visit http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/index.cfm.

Enrollment in this class includes an opportunity to take the CGC test on the last session.

Class Requirements:

  • Dog and handler must have completed at MINIMUM one basic or intermediate obedience class, puppy classes do not count. Even dogs who have completed our one-on-one training qualify –  PLEASE consult with Bob to see if your dog is ready for this class. The instructor has the right to excuse any dog that comes into class with insufficient skills to participate (no refunds or class credits).
  • Dogs should have a solid sit, down, recall (come), wait/stay, and be able to walk politely on lead around distractions before enrolling in this class. This class is a review and refining of basic skills, NOT an introduction to basic manners.
  • Harnesses, haltis, correction collars, and treats are not allowed during CGC testing (martingale collars, and slip leads are allowed). If your dog is still dependent on these kinds of aids to perform the behaviors listed above, he is NOT ready for the CGC class.
